How to exclude file extensions from scanning on TechGenie Antivirus?

TechGenie Antivirus by default scans all files and folders stored on your computer. However, according to your preferences you can configure it to not to scan certain files with specific extensions. When you exclude files with specific extensions, TechGenie will leave those files as it is and will not scan them, regardless of their location on your computer. It is important to note that this exclusion is also applicable to files and removable media, including CDs, USB storage devices, DVDs or even network drives.

Note: Even if you are sure that certain files with specific extensions are legitimate, doesn’t carry any kind of malware and you want to exclude them from being scanned, be cautious. In reality, such exclusions can also make your computer vulnerable to malware.

To exclude file extensions from scanning, follow these steps:

Step 1: Open the TechGenie Antivirus window.

Step 2: Select ‘Antivirus’ tab and select ‘Preferences’.

Step 3: Click on ‘Exclusion’ and select ‘Extensions’.

Step 4: To exclude Extensions:

  • Type in the extension that you want to exclude in the given box and click ‘Add’.
  • Click ‘Enable Exclusion’.

Step 5: To remove scan exclusions:

  • To remove an entry from the table, select it and click on the ‘Remove’ button. These types of file extensions will be included in all future scans.

Point to remember

You can also click on disable exclusion in order to temporarily disable all exclusions; however those exclusions will still remain in the list.
